Even though the media has changed its form for thousands of years, the discrimination on the media has hardly changed and the shameful behavior still exists.
Even when the media only existed as papers, the discrimination also existed. According to researchers, the early media was like brochure. People wrote their idea on them and tried to spread by putting up those papers throughout a town, like we do on the Internet. At that time, people criticized the government, religions, etc. I believe this was a sort of discrimination. And this way was the progress, since the "wall painting" 4000 B.C. had been born, until people came to think the usage as the advertisement. The advertisement has given much benefit to different people; however, there is always disadvantage as everything has. Merchants and advertisers have managed to sell their products at any way, sometimes a harmful way to others, such as the advertisement using the discrimination against the black in order to sell soaps. We still hear and see the issue now.
In addition to the discrimination against folks who take information from the media, that cruel custom is within production process. As any fields had few women, it was rare that women were working at higher position in the media production. Therefore, the females who achieved great job, such as Ann Franklin (the first female newspaper editor), and Frorlence Lawrence (the first movie star, not only as woman) were magnificent. However, women yet suffer from predominance of men especially on TV and film. Sometimes the sufferers are neither male nor female (LGBTQ). Moreover, the men are almost "white", resulting exclusion of other ethnic groups. The condition is now improved gradually, but the matters often arise.
In conclusion, discrimination has changed its habitat from a paper to the screens of TV, movies, computers, etc. Nevertheless, the contents the present people criticize are not different than the past ones. Nowadays, white people who predominate the various world are sometimes attacked by other ethnic people. It seems the proof of growth of equality. However, criticizing between different types (gender, races, religions) is definitely not good. Why don't you start from understanding what you have not entered? You will see quite different world than the one now you see.
